Why Glass Fogs From the Inside
Modern windows hold two or three panes of glass sealed around an insulating layer of air or argon gas. That seal is the window's quiet workhorse: it keeps the gas in and the moisture out for decades.
Chicagoland weather attacks it relentlessly. Summer heat expands the unit, winter cold contracts it, and thousands of those cycles slowly pump the seal apart. Once it gives, humid air seeps in, the insulating gas escapes, and every temperature swing paints condensation across the inner glass.
That is why foggy glass is never a cleaning problem. The window has lost both its clear view and most of its insulating power, permanently.
Signs the Seal Has Failed

Defogging Services
A technician drills the glass and pumps the moisture out. It can clear the view for a while, but the insulating gas is already gone and the failed seal is still failed, so the fog and the energy loss come back.
A New Glass Unit
Swapping just the sealed glass unit can be a fine fix on a newer window with a healthy frame. On an older unit it is a new engine in a rusty car: the frame, hardware, and remaining seals are all the same age as the one that just failed.
Full Replacement
A new window restores everything at once: fresh seals, modern insulated glass, and a frame that will not rot or warp. It is the only option of the three that leaves you with nothing old left to fail.
